City of South Bend Central Services Division <br />Fire Service, Inc./Wheeled Coach Ambulance <br />Specification <br />• A fine textured glazing putty shall be used to fill any additional surface <br />flaws, pinholes and/or scratch marks. After curing, the surface shall be <br />sanded with 320 grit sandpaper using a DA orbital sander. <br />• The substrate shall be sanded with 180 grit sandpaper using a DA orbital <br />sander to remove any final imperfections. <br />• The modular body shall again be thoroughly degreased using M-600 <br />degreaser and the wipe on — wipe off method. <br />• All corner extrusions and the top drip rail to be caulked as necessary. <br />Aluminum Pretreatment. The modular body shall be pretreated with <br />a chromium free conversion coating that is specifically formulated for treating <br />aluminum and its alloys. Prior to the pretreatment application, all diamond plate is <br />to either be removed or properly masked to prevent staining. After application, the <br />modular body shall again be thoroughly degreased using M-600 degreaser and the <br />wipe on — wipe off method. <br />Wash Primer. The modular body shall be primed with a medium <br />build, chromate -free, self -etching wash primer that offers excellent corrosion <br />resistance without the use of metal preps and conditioners. There shall be a <br />minimum of two (2) medium wet coats applied allowing a five (5) minute flash <br />between each coat. The final coat shall be allowed to flash for 30 minutes. The <br />primer shall be sanded with 320 grit sandpaper using a DA orbital sander or 400 <br />grit dry sandpaper by hand. After sanding, <br />the modular body shall again be thoroughly degreased using M-600 degreaser and <br />the wipe on — wipe off method. <br />Sealer. To enhance the adhesion between the substrate and top coat <br />of paint, a transparent sealer/adhesion promoter shall be applied to the modular <br />body. A minimum of two (2) wet coats of sealer shall be applied. The initial coat <br />shall be allowed to flash 10 minutes before the application of the second coat. Once <br />the sealer has cured, the body is the be sanded smooth with 320 grit sandpaper using <br />a DA orbital sander. <br />Top Coat. The top coat of paint shall be a high solid two -component <br />polyurethane enamel, suitable for automotive refinishing, trucks and equipment. <br />Paint shall provide an easy application with excellent flow along with superior gloss <br />and durability in a two -coat application. <br />10070-0003 11 /05/20 <br />28 <br />
