City of South Bend Central Services Division <br />Fire Service, Inc./Wheeled Coach Ambulance <br />Specification <br />Color, Paint and Finish. Ambulance body and all attached <br />equipment exterior surfaces, except polished metal parts, shall be thoroughly <br />cleaned, treated, and coated with a firm primer and preservative with rust inhibiting <br />properties, and painted white to match the OEM chassis. Ferrous metal interior <br />surfaces shall be painted or, when not exposed for painting, shall be treated or <br />coated to resist corrosion. <br />The final stage manufacturer's painted components shall have a paint film not less <br />than 1.25 mils. thick and a minimum total thickness of 4 mils., including primers. <br />The final film of painted surfaces shall be smooth and uniform, free of grit, streaks, <br />blushing, runs, sagging, blisters, "fish -eyes, "orange peel", pinholes, or other <br />surface irregularities. Exterior finish paint shall not be required on the underbody <br />and inside surface of the body skirting. The modular body shall be painted with an <br />AkzoNobel (or equal) high quality automotive polyurethane acrylic paint. <br />All modular body doors shall be removed prior to paint and shall be <br />painted separately from the modular body. After painting, the doors are to be re- <br />installed. The doors shall be painted using the same method as the modular body. <br />Modular Body Preparation. The entire exterior of the modular <br />body shall be cleaned and prepared for painting according to the following <br />minimum requirements: <br />Substrate Preparation: <br />• The modular body shall be thoroughly degreased using an acetone degreaser <br />and the wipe on — wipe off method. <br />• Any areas that require filling will be first be abraded with 80 grit sandpaper <br />using a DA orbital sander. If any welds require grinding, 24 grit paper shall <br />be used. Any plastic filler used shall be mixed and applied per <br />Manufacturer's instructions. After filler application, the surface shall be <br />prepared using 80 grit sandpaper followed by 120 grit paper using a DA <br />orbital sander. <br />• A minimum of two (2) coats of Wash primer EMCF shall be applied to all <br />plastic filler areas allowing to flash five (5) minutes between coats. <br />• The Wash primer shall be sanded with 320 grit sandpaper using a DM <br />orbital sander. <br />10070-0003 11 /05/20 <br />27 <br />
