South Bend Fire Department <br />Theminimumcontinuouselectricalloadshallbeactivatedwiththeenginerunningatidlespeed. <br />Theenginetemperatureshallbestabilizedatnormaloperatingtemperature.Thebatterysystem <br />shallbetestedtodetectthepresenceofbatterydischargecurrent.Thedetectionofbattery <br />dischargecurrent shall be considered a test failure. <br />3. Alternator performance test at full load: <br />Thetotalcontinuouselectricalloadshallbeactivatedwiththeenginerunninguptotheengine <br />manufacturer'sgovernedspeed.Thetestdurationshallbeaminimumoftwo(2)hours.Activation <br />oftheloadmanagementsystemispermittedduringthistest.However,ifanalarmsoundsdueto <br />excessivebatterydischarge,asdetectedbythesystemrequirementsintheNFPAstandards,ora <br />system voltage of less than 11.7 volts dc for more than 120 seconds is present, the test has failed. <br />4. Low voltage alarm test: <br />Followingthecompletionoftheabovetests,theengineshallbeshutoff.Thetotalcontinuous <br />electricalloadshallbeactivatedandshallcontinuetobeapplieduntiltheexcessivebattery <br />dischargealarmactivates.Thebatteryvoltageshallbemeasuredatthebatteryterminals.Withthe <br />loadstillapplied,areadingoflessthan11.7voltsdcfora12voltsystemshallbeconsideredatest <br />failure.Thebatterysystemshallthenbeabletorestarttheengine.Failuretorestarttheengineshall <br />be considered a test failure. <br />NFPA REQUIREDDOCUMENTATION <br />The following documentation shall be provided on delivery of theapparatus: <br />a. Documentation of theelectrical system performance tests requiredabove. <br />b. A written load analysis, including: <br />1. The nameplateratingof the alternator. <br />2. The alternator rating under the conditions. <br />3.
