" He might just as <br />well have added the impending Aquatic Center <br />and the Studebaker Museum to that list. <br />The county juvenile detention palace and the <br />county jail, and of course Riley High School, <br />also will add to the disgusting compilation of <br />projects which are robbing us blind. And you in <br />this room are about to rubberstamp this fiasco. <br />A blighted monument to jaded jocks, and <br />irresponsible politicians whose pride has <br />overcome and overwritten their common sense <br />and intelligence. It's tragic. Thank God Dr. <br />Varner is not one of that maddening crowd. <br />Thank you! <br />Mr. Hunt asked if there was anyone else who <br />would like to address the Commission. Seeing <br />no one, he then asked Mayor Luecke if he would <br />like to re- address the Commission and he <br />indicated that he would. Mayor Luecke made the <br />following remarks: <br />I guess we are in agreement on one issue and that <br />is that we've not been able to make the payments <br />that we had proposed. That is why we are here <br />before you, we have an obligation to pay for the <br />building and the taxpayers have been <br />contributing towards this building for a number <br />of years through general fund dollars. I believe <br />it's best to establish the tax rate. Those general <br />fund dollars are essential for a variety of other <br />issues facing the City, including police and fire <br />salaries and benefits, street department and parks <br />issues. Obviously Ms. Boaler and I have some <br />philosophical differences in terms of what is <br />proper and appropriate for cities to invest in. I <br />-11- <br />
