South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 21, 2000
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
b. continued...
Mr. Hunt asked if there was anyone else who had
any comments. Ms. Boaler addressed the
Commission with the following comments:
I throughly agree with everything that
Mr. Cierzniak just said, and I congratulate him
for being one of the few Notre Dame graduates
who is not blinded by football. From the very
beginning, he, I, and others, said it would not
work. However, unlike others, Mr. Cierzniak has
doggedly stuck with his project: researching,
writing, communicating with unflagging ardor.
In case you don't know, he is seen as the local
"hero ". The man who told the truth about this
project and has stood up for the taxpayers
despite vilification by the media and the
administration. A true "hero". Thank you,
Mr. Cierzniak!
Now to remarks allegedly made by Mr. Kish. I
wish he didn't feel the need to say "we think the
attendance is doing just fine, we get better every
year ". No, we don't. He and the Mayor use the
words "think, believe, hope, trust ". We citizens
share none of those sentiments about this project.
We know that it will always be a failure. Should
never have been begun in the first place. It's a
bottomless pit into which our hard earned
dollars and pensions pour and will continue to
cascade for the next 17 to maybe 25 years. When
many of us alive in this room and in this city will
have passed on, leaving this terrible burden,
worthless burden, for our children. How dis-
graceful! At last the Mayor, has publically
stated, "You're correct to say, the Hall doesn't
make any money ". That's an understatement,
Coveleski Stadium, Century Center, the East
-10-
