South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 21, 2000
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
b. continued...
and Sexton? Not one word was ever said in
public about its results because there was
nothing positive to report. Chalk up another
shell game successfully played by the Kernan
administration.
A couple of years ago, yet another "silver bullet"
was promised as the great redeemer of the Hall
of Fame's flagging fortunes. Host
Communications was brought on board to gain
sponsorships and visibility for the Hall. Almost
nothing is heard these days about the Host group
outside of getting a plug for the Hall in college
football game -day programs. One more silver
bullet fired without hitting the target.
So, August Commissioners, the Hall people, i.e.,
now the Luecke administration, comes before you
today with an unspoken admission offailure: a
financial mess has been made and must be
cleaned up by you. Of course you must approve
Resolution 1784. Bills must be paid. Financial
obligations must be honored. It's time to fold up
the carnival offlim flam efforts to fund the Hall;
it's time to enlist the funds of the local taxpayers
to bail it out. What's one more millstone, one
more overly- expensive failed government project
to fasten around the necks of the taxpayers?
But when you pass this resolution, please don't
patronize us once again by telling us what a
good and necessary project the Hall of Fame has
become. It's a flop, a burden, and a
laughingstock around town. Don't try to tell us
otherwise about South Bend's most famous white
elephant. Thank you!
0
