South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - March 17, 2000
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
a. continued...
Mrs. Kolata stated that a proposal was
received from Williams
Communications to purchase Parcel 11 B
at the corner of Franklin and Stull Street.
The proposed purchase price is $15,000.
The developer has proposed to construct
additional landscaping along the front
and side of the building and to dress up
the entry doors and overhang. Williams
Communication provides a full range of
traditional and leading edge
communication services. They are the
nation's largest - volume system of
interstate natural gas pipes lines. They
are a U.S. based wholesale fiber -optic
network; single - source providers of
business communication systems and
international satellite and fiber -optic
video services. They will build a steel
frame building with split face CMU
walls. The design is for a 5,000 sf
building to be constructed as Phase I and
have a future mirror image building
constructed as Phase II when the
available space for equipment is
saturated. One onsite technician will
occupy the building. Landscaping will
be in accordance with the Design
Review Guidelines for the area.
Construction is to begin in early spring
of 2000 and completion will be 120 days
after start of construction. The staff
recommends accepting the proposal.
-5-
