South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - January 21, 2000
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
d. continued...
The Amendment to the South Bend
Central Development Area Development
Plan goes into detail about why the South
Bend Central Development Area should be
expanded. Expansion Area No. 4 includes
both Memorial Hospital and South Bend
Medical Foundation facilities.
Ted Foti Sr., Vice - President of Memorial
Health System, stated that they are the
major property owner and developer of in
Downtown Medical Services District that
Ms. Kolata referred to. He also stated that
over a year ago, they initiated a planning
process for Memorial Hospital. The
planning process involved determining
whether the programs which Memorial
Health System had been developing for
some time were appropriate, needed to be
adjusted, expanded or discontinued. As
Memorial Health System went through
this process, they determined that the
approaches that they had been taking were
ones that they wanted to continue.
Subsequently, they looked at their location
relative to the programs that they want to
expand. It was determined that Memorial
Hospital's location on Michigan Street and
the properties which Memorial Hospital
owns in the contiguous blocks are
expandable.
0
