South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - December 19, 1997
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
r. continued....
Mayor Kernan's commitment to the
project. The City administration ... I know
that the Redevelopment Commission
expressed support of the Museum and the
Driver's Club. And, the Chamber and
downtown convention and business
interests are all lined up on this site after a
very difficult five years.
Ann Kolata stated that she forgot to
mention this earlier but the staff checked
the mail at 10:00 a.m. this morning and, as
of that time, no other written
remonstrances were received. We had two
remonstrances that came in previously and
were mentioned earlier.
JON HUNT: We think that all the
acquisitions that are being proposed today
and your consideration of the amendment
to the Plan for those acquisitions, the staff
strongly recommends favorably on those
for your consideration.
I think that this is critical to the long range
of the Southwest Corridor. I think that is
also critical and an integral piece of the
cultural, education and entertainment
aspects of downtown South Bend, which
serves a large region. Again, we
recommend favorably to you from a staff
standpoint, the amendment to the Plan that
would bring this site on the aquisition list
also. If there are any questions, I will be
glad to answer them.
F:\IiOME\ CPHIPPS \WPDATA \COMMSN\121997.MIN -41-
