 1
South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - November 21, 1997
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
c. continued....
Mrs. Kolata explained that Resolution
No. 1547 amends the Development Plan
for the South Bend Central Development
Area by adding one piece of property at
214 W. Jefferson Boulevard, owned by
Carol J. Minker to the acquisition list.
Mr. Hunt opened the public hearing for
anyone who wished to speak regarding
Resolution No. 1547.
GREG KIL: I am an architect working
with Carol Minker and Steve Moerlein,
owners of the property located at 214 W.
Jefferson Boulevard. Carol Minker is here
with me today. I have been working with
the owners in developing a plan to
remodel this building for office use on the
upper three floors and restaurant use on
the lower level. If you recall, this is the
former Barb's Restaurant and everyone is
familiar with the building.
In July or August we were approached by
Jon Hunt regarding the possibility of
acquisition to purchase the building for,
what we understood, development of the
quarter block as a future potential office
development. At the time, Mr. Moerlein
expressed a desire to pursue the project as
we had developed it to that point and we
are continuing to pursue it. Ms. Minker's
and Steve Moerlein's intent for the project
is developing the building as law offices
for Mr. Moerlein's law practice and the
location is very desirable.
