PUBLIC HEARING <br />A. CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />1. 539 Riverside Drive COA#2015-1207 River Bend <br />Representation by Troy Hanyzewski, owner <br />Discrepancy on 3rd storey description — there are actually hundreds of holes penetrating <br />through the cedar shake from the previous siding installation; it is not a repairable siding. <br />Steve Szaday, HPC Preservation Specialist, question clarifying that 31 story vinyl shake <br />was left over from a previous job. <br />Tom Anderson, 535 Riverside Drive, anxious to see something happen to this house in <br />the neighborhood as one of the last remaining to be occupied and has been vacant for <br />awhile and multi -family since approximately 2003. As neighbors, they would like to see <br />a compromise and for something to be worked out tonight. <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 7 December 2015 <br />Application Number: 2015-1207 <br />Property Location: 539 Riverside Drive <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Free Classic/1903/Hammond & Whitcomb <br />Property Owner: Troy Hanyzewski <br />Landmark or District Designation: River Bend LHD <br />Rating: Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: The house is a Free Classic, four-square plan, two stories built in 1903 by real estate <br />developers Hammond and Whitcomb that is raised above street level. The foundation is raised brick; the siding is brick on the 1St <br />storey, wood clapboard on the 2nd storey with a flared string course and wood shingle on the 3rd. The roof is a hip with an <br />asymmetrical gabled roof dormer and is covered with asphalt shingles. The windows are 1/1 and 3/1 double hung with aluminum <br />storms. A front porch has a hipped roof, square wood supports, and concrete decking and wing walls. There is a wood 2❑d storey <br />deck in the rear with a small shed roof addition underneath. <br />ALTERATIONS: A complete tear -off and re -roof with asphalt shingles, ice shield, gutters and downspouts was completed with <br />COA#2008-0115. Asphalt siding was removed with COA#2013-0805A and correction to the size of the front entry storm door. <br />The second storey wood deck structure and stairs in the rear was added to accommodate an upstairs rental unit and has been <br />replaced in-kind. Aluminum storm windows are installed. <br />
