that the South Bend Fire Department had been using this structure as a practice site since
the start of the year. This was confirmed by the Fire Department as well. There was even
a story on the local news to avoid that corner since that department was going to be doing
practice during an early morning exercise. A friend in the South Bend Police Department
even remembers having to block traffic to allow the trucks to move in and out. The
director has more details, but holy cow. There is no end to this administration's agenda
for widespread clearing.
On a happier note the Restore Michiana workshop for Roofs and Basements went
very well. We did not have as many as we had originally scheduled, but those that
attended got their money's worth. Next lecture is June 11, 2014 at St Paul's and it is on
Saving $$$ with Old Windows and the slide show is the one put on by the National
Windows Preservation Collaborative.
Thank you,
Steve Szaday
Preservation Specialist
