Unpainted masonry surfaces shall not be painted unless they <br />had been painted originally. Paint shall not be removed from masonry surfaces by any means that damage <br />the surface. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the removal of the siding to determine the <br />cause of the deterioration and its replacement in -kind. The problematic point on the house appears to be <br />where the east cornice of the south gable meets the body of the house on the south side. There is <br />deterioration of the moulding on the cornice; in addition, the aluminum siding was cut to fit around the <br />cornice and is now gapping away from the body of the house (See photographs). The downspout at the <br />location also appears to be screwed together in a number of places may also be contributing to the problem <br />and may need to be replaced along with the eave. The eave on that side of the house does not completely go <br />to the end of the roofline. Staff also recommends that the home owner have a roofe'r investigate the <br />possibility that the problem may initiate with deterioration of the roofing materials. There appears to be at <br />least three layers of roofing. If the cause is determined to be that of the roof staff then recommends an <br />approval of a complete tear off, repair and re -roof with asphalt shingles of the owners choosing. <br />On a motion by Todd Zeiger, as amended by applicant, for approval of the repair and/or <br />removal of the siding with the applicant to come back with specific options to replace the <br />siding or to repair and paint with a second by Jerry Niezgodski <br />Vote: 7 -0 <br />COA 2010 -0405 was approved as amended with a unanimous vote. <br />B.
