STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the removal of the siding to determine the cause of the deterioration and its replacement in -kind. The problematic point on the house appears to be where the east cornice of the south gable meets the body of the house on the south side. There is deterioration of the moulding on the cornice; in addition, the aluminum siding was cut to fit around the cornice and is now gapping away from the body of the house (See photographs). The downspout at the location also appears to be screwed together in a number of places may also be contributing to the problem and may need to be replaced along with the eave. The eave on that side of the house does not completely go to the end of the roofline. Staff also recommends that the home owner have a roofe'r investigate the possibility that the problem may initiate with deterioration of the roofing materials. There appears to be at least three layers of roofing. If the cause is determined to be that of the roof staff then recommends an approval of a complete tear off, repair and re -roof with asphalt shingles of the owners choosing. On a motion by Todd Zeiger, as amended by applicant, for approval of the repair and/or removal of the siding with the applicant to come back with specific options to replace the siding or to repair and paint with a second by Jerry Niezgodski Vote: 7 -0 COA 2010 -0405 was approved as amended with a unanimous vote.
