outbuildings there. I've brought with me some photos that were taken on the property. There are
two existing frame structures that are north of the home and I have pictures of those two facilities.
We'll make every effort to move those. But the other building, and I'll turn it over in a minute to
Tim, the one structure that you see is being supported by hot water heaters, or soft water tanks.
The structures are not real sound. The pump house is this little brick facility that is just in
deplorable condition and I don't think that there's anyway that we're going to be able to move
that. We will make a representation tonight that we will move those two wood frame structures
that you have in front of you. And, likely, we'll have to take them apart to move them and then
we'll have to reconstruct them. Let's see, I think that you also have a letter in your packet from
the city of South Bend, assuming that we would prevail tonight, that we could move the property
to it's new location. Assuming that we met the setbacks and all of that there's really nothing that
we have to do other than meet those zoning conditions to move the home. Obviously with your
permission. So, having said all that, I'll turn it over to Tim unless you have some questions
specifically for me, or you can talk to him about his experience moving historical homes.
Lykowski: I think that Todd Zeiger can vouch for my historical home moving, he's a general on
that.
Zeiger: We've moved one or two of them.
Lykowski: The frame home, there's not a problem moving that. The pump house, identified as a
pump house, this little one, is masonry, it's in really bad shape and there's just no way that we're
going to be able to...
Riley: Would you show that, is that the brick?
Zeiger: It (the photo) is coming.
Lykowski: This other lean-to, or shed likewise the east west and south walls are in good shape but
the roof system and the north wall are in really bad shape. The tanks inside are holding up some
of the rafters that are falling in so it's in very bad shape. It would have to be dismantled. It looks
like at one time, at least the decking and a back wall were replaced with plywood. And the other
one, the pitched roof shed, likewise it's in bad shape. The east wall more than anything. The
roof system is ok but some of the decking is rotted away. I can answer any other questions that
you might have.
Klusczinski: Are there any other questions for the petitioner?
Chase: I'm assuming that the house is in better condition than the outbuildings?
Lykowski: Considerably, yeah. The house has been well maintained. It's in a lot better shape.
Chase: And we don't have anything on the positioning on the new property of the house and the
outbuildings. Is that decided yet or is that waiting on Code?
Davey: No, but in talking with Catherine, we represent to you that, as it is a house, we want to be
sure that its as far off of Gumwood as we can. So, we'll move that as far to the west and then
we'll probably want to position the two outbuildings just as they'd be to the north of the home.
The home would front on this access lane, so it will be looking south.
Zeiger: You're not going to orient it towards the street?
Davey: It will be oriented towards the little lane off of Gumwood. You'd turn left off of
Gumwood if you're coming from...
Lykowski: There's a paved little street
Zeiger: Yes, we walked it.
Klusczinski: Thank you very much, any other questions?
Zeiger: The porch will just be reconstructed then, the pillars, and rebuild it to match?
Lykowski: We'll use the same columns, all of the columns will go back in. It will be just as it is
now.
Zeiger: I guess a couple of my questions relate to what's going to happen in the future. Which I
know you may not be able to speculate on. My question is what happens to this land back here?
Do the Bauer's control this land back here then?
Davey: If I can get my bearings here.
Zeiger: To the west.
Davey: They do not. There's a Mishawaka well field. There's two homes back there, this lane
turns north then but most of this property is Mishawaka well field.
10
