South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting - June 6, 1997 <br />6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) <br />a. continued.... <br />the Morris Performing Arts Center must <br />be brought into the 21st century, while <br />maintaining its grace and beauty of the <br />1920's. He noted that the Broadway <br />Theatre League has a great impact on <br />other businesses. The sooner renovations <br />can begin the better — because the Morris <br />Performing Arts Center is a centerpiece <br />for businesses surrounding South Bend. <br />He felt that this project has been on the <br />drawing board for too long. <br />Duke Jones, President of the Board of the <br />South Bend Entertainment District, stated <br />that the fundraising efforts have <br />continued in full force with more than <br />$120,000 in additional pledges derived <br />from leadership contributions and the <br />major gift campaigns have been made <br />since mid -May. He stated that Peggy <br />King has agreed to be the chairperson for <br />the community -wide campaign. He also <br />stated that there will be three different <br />types of fundraising campaigns. The first <br />is a fundraising campaign for <br />contributions of $25,000 or more. <br />Second, there will be a local business' <br />fundraising campaign. Lastly, a <br />community at -large fundraising campaign <br />will be held. He noted that as of today, <br />South Bend Entertainment District has <br />close to $5.1 million in pledges. Also, <br />$1.7 million in pledges have already been <br />received from local institutions. The <br />pledges are held in CDs and other <br />investments.
