The Broadway <br />Theatre League was first organized in <br />1959 and has been in business for almost <br />40 years, bringing top - quality entertainers <br />to the community, such as: Music of the <br />Night by Andrew Lloyd Weber; Hello <br />Dolly starring Carol Chaning; Kiss of the <br />SpiderWoman; Carousel; and Damm <br />Yankees, starring Jerry Lewis. <br />He also noted that they currently have <br />about 3,500 season subscribers and the <br />balance of the tickets are sold on an <br />individual show basis. <br />Greg Gizci stated that although they are a <br />not - for - profit organization, they must <br />operate as a business. To bring broadway <br />shows to a community is a very big <br />business. It's common to have to <br />guarantee a producer financial security to <br />put on a broadway show and other <br />expenses that go along with putting on a <br />production. He stated that the Morris <br />Civic Auditorium is a broadway- theatre <br />house and the Broadway Theatre League <br />feels the House is in need of renovation. <br />The Broadway Theatre League supports <br />the renovation of the Morris. They have <br />been faced with problems that resulted <br />from the stagehouse being too small and <br />the poor condition of the dressing rooms. <br />Greg Gizci stated that South Bend needs <br />to remain the regional entertainment <br />center of the area.
