Ireland and order it when we knew that we didn't have enough. They sent it over here, and it
matched just fine, and it wasn't an expensive preposition.
Sporleder: I belong to the Presbyterian Church, as it turns out, and they have been fairly
meticulous in keeping their drawings, so it's fairly possible that the original drawings for this
building are in our vault. And if that's of any help to anybody, I'd be more than happy to dig
those out if that's any help to anybody. It's a dungeon down there and not very pleasant, but that
might be helpful. I'd like to pickup on what Linda said and if we could get somebody locally, not
necessarily a few more estimates, but I'd like to get Slatile or someplace that Todd might
recommend to see if we could just get a good inspection of your roof and see if we can idents the
areas of concern, places where the water problems are usually the most severe and also to get an
assessment of the quality of the slates that exist. They really do disintegrate and there isn't much
worth to trying to save them.
Klusczinski: I have a brief question for Counsel. For the purposes of this discussion, I'm not
sure that it's possible to sustain this C ofA with the amendments that have been offered; either by
Linda with the use of artificial slate, which what you're proposing which is to have contractors
from the area come in and take a look for an assessment.
Sporleder: To give us an assessment of what the problems are so that we can help assist him to
work out what's best for everyone.
Peterson: You really would only have two options. One, you're required to take action on the C
ofA within 60 days so you either have to postpone or table with the consent of the applicant to
conduct further investigations of the issues that were raised. Or, take action upon the C ofA
either today or at a subsequent meeting. If you choose to deny it, you'd each have to state your
reason why you choose to deny it. When you consider a C ofA, just as a reminder, there are
three factors, are the improvements appropriate in light of the goals of the Commission, would
the improvement bear a detriment to the public if it is allowed if it's not appropriate, and three,
what is the potential hardship to the applicant. So you weigh those three factors when you
choose whether to approve or deny an application. Again, a reminder, if you do choose to deny,
you must state your opinion of why you're denying it. You must say those types of issues in your
rationale for your vote.
Klusczinski: Well, with that advice, the Chair will entertain a motion to table C ofA 2007-0904,
and remand the further investigation to staff, or Committee pending the information.
Riley: Why can't the petitioner get the estimates?
Klusczinski: Martha has moved that the C ofA be tabled.
Sporleder: I'll second it, if it hasn't been seconded.
Klusczinski: It hasn't, so thank you.
Peterson: Before a vote, we need to ask the applicant if he'd be willing to extend the deadline of
the application to allow further fact finding for you to be able to get estimates and all that?
Would you be willing to allow an extension of the deadline, or do you wish for the Commission to
take final action within 30 days?
Juszczyk: At this time, it goes back to the same scenario. We do not have the money, so even if
we had estimates for $2000 we don't have it. We barely have enough money to do what we want
to do to save the building and that's where we're at. If you want to delay it, I'm fine with that,
but it's just damaging the building more.
Peterson: Just for clarification, just so you understand, when you submit an application, you
have the right to request that they take action within 60 days of your request.
Zeiger: Sixty days from date of application.
Peterson: Yes, from date of application.
Zeiger: So we've got until November.
Peterson: They_could_table_itlo-table_it.In_a-sense,theliming_is-such_that_if_you provide
additional information that is persuasive they can take further action. If you're saying that
you're not going to get additional information, then the 60 days will come up and they will take
action whether approval or denial they're allowed to have that window. But if you want to extend
it to get more information, then you should let us know at this time that you want us to allow the
