added, but at the time that they were added they're very similar to the ones that you've
got elsewhere, In other words, they're all wood. I'm sure some were covered up, those
we don't know about. I was going on an outside visual inspection of the down stairs.
Klusczinski: Sure, ok.
Sporleder: So to restore the existing original windows whatever ones they are since they
have aluminum storm windows on them, I assume that there are no wood storms left. So
even if they're restored, new wood storms /screen windows would have to be made, so
that would be an additional expense.
Zeiger: We all know that I'm not the window guy, but I can tell you from recent
experience with Schoberg and others, we have a capacity issue with their ability to show
up and do the job. If we had 12 contractors, it would be a different job, Schoberg bid a
couple of things for us and said basically `I may be there in the spring" because he's just
so busy. I'm just saying that I understand the frustration with capacity. I just share that
with the Commission that we have a capacity issue and that we can teach home owners
how to do it. I'm just concerned that at some point we need to address the capacity issue.
Ninety days is pretty fast, but even so, it just takes more time.
Klusczinski: Very good. I'll entertain a motion from anyone brave enough to offer one.
Zeiger: Has the applicant agreed to modem the application similar to the other one?
Maradik: Just to remove...
Klusczinski: And there's a window condition- whether or not the Commission decides
that the windows need to be evaluated in the same manner as the siding or not should be
part of the motion. If it is, then we charge Standards and Maintenance with their
findings.
Zeiger: I'll make the motion to approve 2007 -0806C as amended with regard to siding
aspect so long as the Kolbe and Kolbe windows are the sash kit and not another type
window that would reduce the size of the opening itself.
Sporleder: I'll second the motion.
Peterson: For the record, she has to agree to that as well.
Klusczinski: We're not telling you that it has to be Kolbe and Kolbe...
Peterson: Let the record show that she amended to allow consistent with your motion.
Klusczinski: There's a motion on the floor, do we have a second?
Sporleder: I did.
Klusczinski: Oh, I'm sorry Joann. Any more discussion? All in favor? (Ayes are heard)
Opposed? (Silence)
B. LANDMARKS — None.
H. REGULAR BUSINESS
The Chair entertained a motion to suspend the published agenda to allow for a scheduled presentation on
behalf of the Thermolite Company of South Bend.
Moved: Patrick Second: Patrick
Approved Unanimously
Mr. Ken Hanson and Mr. Eric Kus of Thermolite made a presentation to the Commission at the invitation
of the Chair. Thermolite is a locally made window product that may represent a good alternative in
preservation as their product is an thin profile, interior storm that can preserve the outward appearance of
a structure while providing the home owner with greater energy efficiency.
A.
