MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />OF SOUTH BEND & SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY <br />April 19, 2006 <br />County -City Building, South Bend <br />Council Chambers, 4`d Floor <br />Members Present: Lynn Patrick [President], Todd Zeiger [Vice -President], Mary Jane Chase [Secretary], <br />Timothy Klusczinski [Treasurer], Catherine Hostetler, Joann Sporleder [Architectural Historian], Martha <br />Choitz, Jerry Ujdak <br />Members Absent: Diane Wrobel-Illes <br />Staff Present: Catherine Hostetler [Director], Julie Schutte [Assistant Director], Shawn Peterson [Counsel] <br />Also Present: Jennifer Craig, VP of Communications, Junior League of South Bend; Bob Jones, Rolanda <br />Hughes, Joe Taschetta, Tom Price, Don Sporleder <br />I. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL: Lynn Patrick called the meeting to order at 5:31 pm. <br />II. PUBLIC HEARING <br />A. CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />1. 2006-0314: 411 West North Shore Drive <br />Catherine Hostetler read the staff report and Mr. Jones, the homeowner, was present. Joann Sgoileder <br />asked if the existing trees would remain. Mr. Jones stated that they would remain but the existing <br />taxis shrubs would be removed and replaced with boxwood. <br />Joann Sporleder moved to approve Certificate of Appropriateness 2006-0314, 411 West North <br />Shore, as submitted. Timothy Klusczinski seconded the motion and it passed 8-0, all in favor. <br />2. 2006-0324: 519 Riverside Drive <br />Catherine Hostetler read the staff report for this application. The homeowner and the contractor were <br />not present at the meeting. <br />Mary Jane Chase moved to approve application 2006-0324, 519 Riverside Drive, as presented. <br />Joann Sporleder seconded the motion and it passed 8-0 in favor. <br />3. 2006-03330: 130 Park Lane <br />Catherine Hostetler read the staff report and Lynn Patrick recognized Jennifer Craig, the <br />representative from the Junior League of South Bend. Todd Zeiger asked if the sign would be <br />illuminated. It will not be. Joann Sporleder asked if there were other signs in the neighborhood and if <br />it met the City's Code for signage. Catherine noted that she directed the applicant to review the <br />signage on Lincolnway East and that the area did have several signs for Memorial Hospital and the <br />other medical clinics. Jennifer Craig noted that the contractor, John Yarger, had researched the <br />requirements and was confident that the sign met code. <br />Martha Choitz moved to accept application 2006-0330 as presented. Jerry Ujdak seconded the <br />motion and it passed unanimously. <br />
