ALADEAN DEROSE: All this does is state that a member of the committee need not be
a member of the commission. It doesn't affect their term, which is described in the
previous section, which is a one year term. So any member of the committee serves for a
one year term.
JOANN SPORLEDER: It still doesn't say how an ex -officio person is invited to
participate on these committees.
ALADEAN DEROSE: You want to make it clear that all committee members whether
they are commission members or members of the community should, be appointed by the
president. I will make that change in Section 1.
Commission members had a brief discussion about the benefits of having an advisory
board.
LYNN PATRICK: In Section 2, Special Committees, the last line of that paragraph
says, "The majority of every standing committee shall be constituted of commission
members." In Standing Committees, Section 1, the last line of that paragraph states the
same thing, is that a redundancy.
ALADEAN DEROSE: Yes it is. It should read "special committee" instead. Let me
summarize the revisions that have been made.
1. Under Section 1, you want to make it clear that all members of each standing
committee are appointed by the president and that the standing committee
members serve a term of one year.
2. Under Special Committees, you want to delete in the second line the words "or by
unanimous consent" as well as in the second to the last line in the same paragraph.
3. At the end of Section 2, on the last line where it now says, "The majority of every
standing committee shall be constituted of commission members." You're
replacing the word "standing" with the word "special" and you also want to add
"no opinion or recommendation of the special committee shall bind the
commission."
4. The Advisory Board section will remain as it is.
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: I move that we hold off taking a vote on this until the
new revisions have been completed next month.
LYNN PATRICK: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
3. Minutes Proposal
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: I move that this be tabled until next month.
TODD ZEIGER: Seconds the motion and it passes. John Oxian abstains.
4. Studebaker Building on 637 S. Lafayette — John Oxian report
JOHN OXIAN: I want to make a motion to table this until next month.
MARTHA CHOITZ: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
V. NEW BUSINESS
1. CONTRACTS: Inspector's and Transcriptionist
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: We only have one contract to renew. We received Mrs.
Oxian's letter informing the commission that she will no longer be our transcriptionist the
30th of this month. We do have the inspector's services contract before us. You have a
copy of it in your monthly meeting packet. It is the same contract as we approved for
Wayne last year except I have asked for a ten percent increase in his hourly wage to go
up to twenty-two dollars an hour. He has been with us for four years and has not had any
increase in his salary.
25
