Mary Jane Chase: You know, have a meeting then say, you know ... I'm just seeing some
problems there. Where do you want to step there?
Lynn Patrick. We're getting bogged down in this. How about we hold off on this and discuss this
a little bit more as we have our meetings to discuss the advisory committee.
Shawn Peterson: Conversations.
Lynn Patrick. Conversations. We need to call them conversations?
Shawn Peterson: Well, that's what they are, they're not meetings.
Lynn Patrick. There not meetings because they're not quorum?
Shawn Peterson: Right.
Lynn Patrick: Ok. Conversations. Very good.
Todd Zeiger: I have a landmark committee report when you're ready for it.
Lynn Patrick: I'm ready for it.
2. Landmarks Committee Chair: Update
Todd Zeiger: I met, the landmarks committee, I had a conversation, a phone conversation with
myself. (Laughter) I did talk to Linda, thank you Linda for joining my committee. Um, Julie and I
met before Julie left, and I got a good sense of where the report is at with regard to all the
individual landmarks and how many photographs, how many have been taken photographs of.
Wayne has really captured I'd say % of all of the individual landmarks. Julie has all the
landmark files in order. And so, the next step in that process is to finish the photography so that
we have a photo of every one. And then my goal is to do some sort of a report in some fashion
that each of Commission members can have so that everybody knows what all the individual
landmarks are. I'm tired of asking myself, 'is that a landmark, is that a landmark, so we need
that list. Whether we do it at a meeting here where 1 just throw the images real quick on a power
point and run through them, or we want to take the time during a session, as an educational
piece. There aren't that many, I mean there's a bunch but we could flip through them really -
quickly. Or I could just put it in a CD format for everyone to look at on their own. I'd look for
some advice on that, but that's my first goal for landmarks so everybody knows what they all are
and has a list and a picture of them so you know where they all are. And then from there that will
fold into the preservation plan of what we do with that vs. adding new ones or whatever.
Lynn Patrick: That sounds excellent. Moving onto staff reports.
C. STAFF REPORTS
1. Director's Report — Catherine Hostetler
Catherine distributed her report, and reminded Commissioners that they had copies of the Staff
Approved CoA's in their packet. Commissioners also received a flyer about the Tree Workshop
that was received in the office.
Catherine read thank you letter from Urban Enterprise Association regarding the Commission's
timely handling of their CoA regarding the Burke Building. And informed the Commission that
the Burke project will include the skylights that were questioned during the approval process of
that CoA.
Todd Zeiger: They're working on it.
Catherine Hostetler: Yes, they are.
Discussed issues of tax credits and other information for homes in local historic districts and
national register districts, as well as zoning issues regarding student housing. The Director also
received a phone call from a resident of River Bend that stated that the resident was circulating a
petition to revoke district status. Caller claimed most of neighborhood had signed in favor of the
petition, but further conversations with the liaison and other neighbors revealed that no one was
aware of their efforts. The call may have been related to a conversation that Catherine Hostetler
had with a resident of River Bend upon his request to demolish his mother's house that he
consider other options first. The petition or CoA may follow.
Linda Riley: Can you tell me the boundaries of River Bend?
11
