JOANN SPORLEDER: Were we going to propose the kind of tree that would get
planted in front or are we leaving that up to the owners, since they would like to have an
ornamental tree?
JULIE SCHUTTE: We suggested a shade tree, but we did not specify what type.
JOHN OXIAN: What do the owners prefer: brick or the flagstone?
JULIE SCHUTTE: They actually prefer the flagstone from a cost basis.
JOHN OXIAN: Does flagstone last as long as the brick?
JOANN SPORLEDER: If it is properly installed it should last. If they buy that really
soft sandstone flagstone it doesn't hold up as well as the harder stuff.
JULIE SCHUTTE: They were going to choose slate.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Some slates are more close to sandstone then they are to hard
slate.
JOHN OXIAN: I will make a motion to approve application 2005-1006 based on the
recommendations made by staff, but that a shade tree be planted and that it be part of the
list of trees that we recommend, and that they use Option B, the flagstone terrace.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Seconds the motion and passes unanimously.
Joan Sporleder also stated that a big shade tree would probably be inappropriate for the
small tree lawn. A smaller shade tree such as an ironwood, blue beach, or any of the
other smaller species of trees would probably survive there.
4. 2005-1007; 308 Lamont Terrace
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: (See staff report, pictures, and surveyor's map attached
to C of A in HPC meeting packet). Property owner, Sheryl Vernon, was present.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Does the fence come in white as in the picture?
SHERYL VERNON: The fence comes in a natural wood color. We intend to stain it a
little richer darker brown color.
JOHN OXIAN: Why do you want to put a six-foot fence between you and your
neighbor?
SHERYL VERNON: There was an old chain link fence there that was falling apart and
had holes in it. Because of the close quarters we have with the neighbor behind us,
whose property is in very bad disrepair, we really don't want their property to be a part of
our back yard area. Also, our dog passed away this summer, and we want to get a new
puppy in the spring and would like to have a fenced in yard.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Will the yard then be completely enclosed?
SHERYL VERNON: The fence goes to the back corner of my property behind the
garage, and then it will close to the front part of my home - not the porch, but the side of
my house - and then where we have brick terracing patios in the back, it will be open.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I will move that application 2005-1007 at 308 Lamont Terrace
to install a fence be approved as recommended by staff.
TODD ZEIGER: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
B. LANDMARK
1. 16977 Adams Landmark 1880 Barn and Farm -Update
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: The Adams Road barn was landmarked in a unanimous
vote by the County Council at their last meeting.
2. Conservatories and Green Houses at Potawatomi Park -Report of
October 4 meeting with Mayor and Phil St. Claire
