We do this knowing that this <br />40 personal interaction both with civic agencies, and with each other, is one of <br />41 the things that make our community such a humane, interesting and dynamic <br />42 place to live. <br />43 What Local Historic District Status Means <br />44 Under the requirements of Local Historic District Ordinance , a <br />45 Certificate of Appropriateness (C of A) would be required for any activity in <br />46 the district which requires a building permit and which alters the appearance <br />47 of a building or site, including houses, garages, and other outbuildings, as <br />48 seen from a street. <br />49 The guidelines and standards for this district are intended to preserve the way <br />50 the neighborhood looks as of June 2005, to provide guidance about proper <br />51 rehabilitation techniques, and to encourage, where possible, a return to <br />52 original historic appearance. <br />53 Changes made before Local Historic District Status was adopted, are not <br />54 subject to these guidelines and standards. Matters such as paint color and <br />55 flowers or landscape vegetation, other than trees in the front yard or tree <br />56 lawn, do not require the acquisition of a C of A. <br />57 These Guidelines and Standards require Rehabilitation (b2, below) and <br />58 encourage but do not require Restoration (b 1, below). <br />2 <br />
