nothing that was land marked on it(Waggoner Farm) and nothing that was land marked
historically about the landscape or anything like that. Now this project of yours has
expanded up to about a thousand acres; and we both know that it's not anywhere near that
at this particular point. I also reminded him of the landmarked cemetery and the
Ehninger Farm; which is at least two hundred and twenty-five acres. I said those are land
marked and you can't interfere with them. But, still when Holladay shows these spaces,
they still show them as being developed all the way up to the state line. So we are going
to have to keep an eye on that. We are working with Councilman Przybysz who has that
area. We are putting the people that are involved in this project; that are neighbors who
don't particularly care for this in touch with preservationists and also with people that are
skilled in determining endangered species on that property.
The people from Granger and from Granger Pathways stopped by the office.
Cheryl Greene informed the commission that Granger Pathways have gotten preliminary
approval for a transportation grant and they are doing the preliminary research to see how
much right-of-way they would need so that they can figure out how much funding the
grant would actually be for; and then they would make the decision on the grant.
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: We are working with them as they progress. They know
us and we know them. We also know when their meetings are and we will be able to
give them some assistance there.
D. Assistant Director's Report: Chapin Park Area Plan
Hearing, Leeper Bridge Lights permit.
JULIE SCHUTTE: At the area plan commission meeting there were about I would say
twenty people in favor of the Local Historic Preservation District and there were only
four who were against it. Two of the remonstrators are married. Despite the
overwhelming majority of those in favor the area plan commission sent down" no
recommendation" regarding the district to the common council. The vote was six to two
in favor of sending it down with a favorable recommendation; but, that was not the
majority of the area plan commission, it sunk, so that recommendation could not be sent
unfortunately. So the common council meeting will be held on Monday the 10. We
have been in contact with Jim Reilman of INDOT. He said that there have been some
delays in the funding for the Leeper Bridge restoration. He believes that the federal
government should be releasing the funding and they should be able to go ahead with
that. They are going ahead with the bidding for replication of the historic lights. The
letter I sent to him regarding the color for the commission's recommendation; is in your
meeting packet.
JOANN SPORLEDER: In addition to the style and color of the lights do, we know how
bright they are going to be? I have been in a couple of places where they have put in
historical looking lights and they just about blind you because they're so bad. I would
like to suggest that in addition to the historical characteristic of the lamp posts that they
look carefully at the quality of the light being given so that it is appropriate for the
historic structure.
JULIE SCHUTTE: I do believe we have some information on the proper intensity and
light coloration for the lights
2.
