them to pursue. Joann and Don Sporleder were both there which was very much
appreciated. The Millers are going to proceed and get an architect and they will probably
be presenting us with some ideas.
D. STAFF REPORTS
1. C of A Approvals; Correspondence
A. 2005-01116a) 1069 Riverside Drive
JULIE SCHUTTE: (See the staff report attached to C of A in meeting packet). The
owners also want to add an air conditioner in their third story. The electrical ducting
would be placed along the side of the house. There is already mechanical ducting in this
location. The Preservation Plan notes that staff has authority to approve such mechanical
devices if they are not viewed from the public right -of -away.
B. Erskine Golf Course: Commission approached by Grass
Roots
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: We have been approached, (see orange and white insert
papers in meeting packet), by the Grass Roots that is still being quarter backed by
Suzanne Hinnefeld. I have enclosed a copy also of the petition in case you are so
inclined to go out there with their petitioning. We have received another update from her
today in which she says that they have collected two hundred and fifty-three signatures so
far. They have organized into groups that you have probably run into already downstairs,
if you were down there. They are trying to mobilize the troops in order to get this golf
course preserved. They have not approached the commission directly and requested a
land marking or national register status.
JOHN OXIAN: Did you check on the national register to see if the main building/club
house is on it?
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: It is not on there.
JOHN OXIAN: Wasn't a request or petition sent down to have it put on the national
register?
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: It may have been considered, but the paperwork wasn't
completed and it wasn't done.
John Oxian stated the reason why he was asking was because when South Hold had their
breakfast there everybody thought the petition had already been sent down to the
National Register. He also stated that he did not know if the commission had done it or if
South Hold had sent the petition down to have it put on the National Register. Catherine
Hostetler said that she would check on it and let him know if the petition had been sent
down to the National Register; and if so who sent it.
C. Director's Report: Office Status Report, Portage Prairie
Developments, Granger Pathways
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: We are going to be administering four grants this year.
It is going to be mostly entailing the city survey, the county addendum, the publication of
the two things, and also the Narvarre Cabin that was sponsored by the Center for History.
We also posted the survey intern openings at the charette that we were at on Friday. I
gave those to Mr. Stamper. We have some extra ones here, Don, if you want to take
some back with you. We need the interns. They are paid this time around, so it's not an
all volunteer group. Portage Prairie has turned out to be a much larger project then was
originally presented to us by Frank Perri and Holladay Corp. When I spoke to him, I
reminded him that when he spoke it was just about the Waggoner Farms, I said there was
1.1
