2. 2004-1101; 1025 Hudson Avenue; Landscape
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: (See staff report, site plan, pictures, attached to C of A). Homeowner,
Douglas Gibson was present.
Douglas Gibson briefly described to commission members the major improvements that he has
already had done to his property.
MARTHA CHOITZ: For application number 2004-1101, I move that we follow the staff
recommendations for the approval of all parts of the landscape plan noted on the application.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
B. HEARING OF VISITORS
DON SPORLEDER: I have one note to share with the commission relative to some of the historic
natural resource areas, the river, and some of the other greenway related items. There is an effort
underway to develop a planning charette early next year and the preliminary sessions are at St.
Patrick's Park.
There is one on the docket tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. There will be people from Elkhart, La Porte,
Porter, and even Lake county, as well as Berrien County, Michigan, coming together just to explore
the notion of developing a regional planning charette to impress the whole issue of greenways, and
that includes historic trails and waterways trials as well as some of the historic woodlands and walk
ways along the state.
For some of the commission who are interested, I am sure you would be welcome at the Round
Barn tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. to participate. The plan is that the Greenway charette is envisioned to
be undertaken early next year, certainly before June of 2005.
III. REGULAR BUSINESS
A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES (Not completed)
B. TREASURER'S REPORT (Nothing to report)
C. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Chapin Park Meetings at Temple Beth El & NNN
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Members of the commission met with the staff on three separate
occasions. Twice we met at Temple Beth El to go over their issues with the boundaries and
standards. We then had a mock C of A session at NNN at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, the fourth of
November, that lasted until after 10:00 pm.
We were addressing people's building projects to see how the standards would apply to different
kinds of situations. It was very productive and very helpful to the neighbors and I think we laid a lot
of fears to rest with the Temple Beth El people and the Chapin Park residents. We are still in
negotiations with them. We have some compromised issues that are going to be addressed at a
meeting date that is conducive to all parties for November 22"d at 4:30 p.m.
2
