to make sure that they had the pertinent information about the structures, their locations
and their significance. I know that one of the projects that was in an earlier packet that
we sent to you mentions that the state is going to be widening State Road 23. It was in
the paper recently. The state has proposed widening State Road 23 from two lanes into
four lanes. They have bundled up the hearing stage; but, not necessarily the
environmental review.
Secondly this report is actually a report that Wayne did for the Near Northwest
Neighborhood Association. They are looking to plant trees along Portage Avenue
between California and Diamond and they have been given specifications for Norway,
Maple, and Red Buds. The planters didn't think that would be appropriate for Portage so
Wayne was able to get them some good information about the Liberty Elm Trees, hoping
that might work out for that entrance into the city.
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Mr. Sellers actually came over to the office and
complimented Wayne on the presentation. It was a very good presentation. People were
up against a wall and Wayne came in with this wonderful suggestion and cost effective
solution, and it went over very well.
2. Legal
JOHN LIVINGSTON: We sent a letter to Mrs. Washington concerning the property at
619 Sherman. It has been reported that it has been received. We are waiting for her
response. In the letter we presented both sides of the equation to her and sent her a copy
of the standards.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review of Studebaker Corridor and 1/3/2005 DNR letter
(See copy of DNR letter in meeting packet)
B. Chapin Park Ordinance referred to Area Plan for 2/18/2005
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: The Chapin Park Ordinance was referred to Area Plan
for a 2/18/2005 hearing. I need to know also if you want the meetings to continue here
on the 7 1 floor after February or do you want me to try for the Council Chambers on the
4`h floor. (commission will make a final decision by next month).
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. Southold Awards Strategy Meeting 1/20/05 @ 5pm
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Lynn, Virginia, Julie, and I met with Mary Ann and
Sherry, the food ladies, and we settled on a menu and time and we're discussing the use
of vendors possibly. We will be charging at least $10.00 per person. Julie has contacted
a HLFI for their membership lists for the county and we're going to get the save -the -date
cards out in the mail on the Friday following Valentine's Day. We still need to decide on
a speaker, award recipients, etc.
B. 115 East South Street/Fire Damage and Demolition Possibility
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: We got a phone call into Norman Northcutt that hasn't
been returned because he said he was ill. John Livingston called me last Friday and said
that Cathy Brucker is putting the house on the demo list, just to get the owner's attention.
She wants it evaluated by an expert and I have emailed both Bob Yapp and Don
Sporleder to see if they would be willing to go to this place and do an evaluation. They
might not even be able to walk into it at this point; because of the heavy snows. This
home has been in this condition since October.
n
