(Nothing to report at this time)
C. COMMITTEE REPORT
1. Standards and Maintenance Committee Report
Martha gave a report that Standards and Maintenance had met with the owner of 322 W. Marion and
had approved the repairs to the main roof (tear off and replace in-kind, roof materials, and soffits) and
in-kind repairs to the porch foundations. The Standards and Maintenance Committee also approved
half -round gutter with downspouts to be placed at the rear of the property.
2. Southhold Awards Committee Re -cap
LYNN PATRICK: We had our Southhold Awards ceremony as planned. We many people attend, but
hope to reach a larger audience next year. We plan next year to send our invitations earlier and to
work for a better attendance. Our speaker, Glory -June Grieff gave a wonderful lecture about the
county's important PWA resources: park sites, schools, and other structures. The Studebaker Museum
was very nice and so were the displays. The food was not as good as Tippecanoe Place, so we will
probably search for another caterer. Other than that it was a very nice event.
D. STAFF REPORTS
1. Results of zoning hearing for 416 W. LaSalle, April 20, 3:30 P.M.
JULIE SCHUTTE: The rezoning board sent an unfavorable recommendation for the rezoning of 416 :.
W. LaSalle from Mixed Used to Light Industrial. This proposal was also opposed by nearby landmark
owners and other neighborhood groups.
2. St. Stephen's Church & school; other W. Washington significant buildings.
JULIE SCHUTTE: Will give further report on West Washington at a later date.
3. Brick Street Workshop, Fort Wayne, Indiana
JULIE SCHUTTE: Wayne and I attended a brick street repair workshop in Fort Wayne. It was very
informative. Royce Baier, of Paxton, Illinois, has completed several brick street repairs. He presented
a lecturer and supervised the hands-on workshop. He showed that brick streets are feasible to repair
and they are economically viable as the maintenance retains the streets for another eighty years.
Hopefully, similar workshops or actual projects could come to South Bend. There was also mention
of grant opportunities that other cities have received. Indianapolis received a grant from the Federal
Highway Administration to restore. several of their brick streets. Up to eighty percent federal and up
to twenty percent local matching grant. Most of local portion of the grant is the supply of materials --
the salvage brick.
4. Correspondence: Leeper Bridge C of A extension
5
