In addition to this, the limestone itself will be cleaned of all the loose particles of the previous
coatings that were put on there before it was recoated. Any limestone that is currently damaged,
cracked or deteriorated, would either be replaced if it is beyond repair or be patched and repaired with
a product such as Jahn's limestone mortar repair or masonry repair.
When we did work on the first 1999 addition, we actually ended up using a different type of
cleaner. I talked with Julie and she asked me to bring those specifications in. We ended up using a
restoration cleaner by Sure Clean. Most of the dirt from the brick came off fairly easy the first time
through.
There are some areas of the building; the chimney, for instance is in really bad shape. There
were some emergency repairs made over the winter because of water infiltration getting into the
building up along the parapet above the east and west side of the 1952 addition. Those would be
redone now as part of this process. So when it is all said and done, the entire building will end up
looking just like what you see on the north and west elevations as it currently sits out there now.
- LYNN PATRICK: What role did the previous tuck -pointing and coating play in the current
efflorescence that I see in these photos? What will happen to,those areas?
GEORGE WEBER: Actually those areas are also going to be re -pointed.
JOANN SPORLEDER: On application 2004-0507, Monroe School, 312 E. Donmoyer Avenue, I
move that the tuck -pointing, repair and/or replacement of the cracked and spalled brick and limestone,
and the cleaning of the masonry be approved; with the caveat that we will get for final approval, the
actual specifications, with the recommendations that have been made by staff.
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously
4. 2004-0510; 702 W. Colfax, Fredrickson House, construction of
new garage, remove portions of drive and parking pad, install fence.
JULIE SCHUTTE: (See staff report attached to C of A). The homeowner, Mrs. Cindy Lewis was
present.
CINDY LEWIS: Mrs. Lewis briefly described to commission members what her proposed plans are
for said property. (See application items and recommendations listed in C.of A, and also pictures and
drawings attached to C of A).
JOANN SPORLEDER: What part of the driveway are you planning on taking out?
CINDY LEWIS: One of our neighbors who has a landscaping business suggested that a really nice
way to soften the driveway is to cut a small portion out of the center and plant perennials there. This
would help it look more like a residence instead of a business.
JOHN OXIAN: Does this fence, (refer to picture), back here go all the way across the property?
CINDY LEWIS: Yes, it does.
3
