No.: 0100330 <br />1. Description of the undertaking. <br />The South Bend Riverside Trail Project is located in the City of South Bend and will <br />provide a safe and attractive alternative for both bicyclists and pedestrians along <br />Riverside Drive from Angela Boulevard to Darden Road. The proposed trail is <br />approximately 3.2 miles long and 10- feet wide. <br />More specifically, the project is located in Sections 23, 26 & 35, Township 38 North, <br />Range 2 East, German and Portage Township, South Bend, Indiana, as indicated on <br />the South Bend West USGS Quadrangle map. <br />This is a federally funded project that requires coordination with the Federal Highway <br />Administration (FHWA). The recommended area of potential effect (APE) is shown <br />on the attached map and includes the area within the west side of Riverside Drive and <br />the west bank of the St. Joseph River beginning at the intersection of Riverside Drive <br />and Angela Boulevard and ending at the intersection of Riverside Drive andDarden <br />Road. <br />2. Efforts to identify historic properties. <br />In efforts to identify historic properties the following organizations were consulted: <br />• The Indiana Department of Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation <br />Office (SHPO) <br />• The Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA) <br />• The Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana <br />• South Bend and St. Joseph County Historic Preservation Commission <br />• The St. Joseph County Historian <br />
