2. At 1132 Lincoln Way East; there is a concrete block and exposed plywood garage.
granted a Certificate of Appropriateness for double -four inch vinyl siding to match
that which the commission approved for the house.
The plywood that had been used to side the garage previously has been up there for
several years and apparently completely unpainted. It looks as if someone just
started on the garage and used it for ten or twenty years without painting it. So, it
now should match the house and anything they do to it should be an improvement
over what it was before.
3. A certificate for the same address to install new three -in -one shingles, shape and
color of the owner's choice, and to replace flashing panel with an identical flashing
panel or exactly replicating what's there.
JOHN OXIAN: What about correspondence?
KAREN HAMMOND-NASH: Most of the correspondence has been sent to commission
members. The only additional matter is a request from the Troyer Group received today
for comments regarding a proposed three and one half mile long by ten foot wide walking
path starting at the Northeast corner of the intersection of Riverside Drive and Angela
and ending at Darden Street Bridge. The historic structures that would be affected that I
can identify would include the Darden Street Bridge, what appear to be old tombstones,
and one of the park areas, and also the South Bend Waste Water Treatment Plant
Administration Building, which is rated an F-12, 1956 Art Deco by Solid Construction
Company.
Troyer has asked for a comment or a response from the commission. I don't know if
you want to make your comments at this meeting or if you want to arrange some later
time for consideration. I can either pass the map around or leave it here on the table for
you to look at later.
There was a brief discussion held among commission members regarding the walking
path that Troyer Group is proposing to build.
JOHN OXIAN: Karen, why don't you construct a rough draft letter and send it to the
Troyer Group? In the letter you can list all of the commission's concerns regarding the
proposed walking path.
JOHN OXIAN: Going on to the Automobile Shelter in Potawatomi Park. Do you have
anything to say about that?
KAREN HAMMOND-NASH: I attended the River Park Neighborhood Association
meeting. Some measure of satisfaction and concern was expressed regarding the Park
Department's restoration plans for the automobile shelter. As you may know the Park
Department plans are to restore the roof and the promenade and to demolish the core of
the building. Also in reference to that meeting I got a call the next day from members of
the association asking if John, as an expert, on Lincoln Way highway historic issues and
to would to their next neighborhood meeting. As you know the Automotive Tourists
Association donated that building to the city of South Bend because of its proximity to
