MR. BARANY: Yes, very much so. Capacity -wise they are much larger than the old
ones. As far as size goes your seven inch gutter is the closest in size, shape, and
prevalence and is also a bit lower.
GERALD UJDAK: Was there a backing board behind the gutter?
MR. BARANY: Yes, there was back board behind the apron gutter that went under the
shingles the whole length of the roof.
JOANN SPORLEDER: So, now tell me where the new gutter is going to be put up so
that the bottom of the gutter is in the exact same relationship to the roof as the original
gutter was.
MR. BARANY: More than likely it will take an eight inch gutter.
JOANN SPORLEDER: How is this gutter attached?
MR. BARANY: There is a cut off that goes up onto the roof. They call it an apron gutter
and that has to be sheared off and you use part of the apron like you would girt flashing.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I move that application number 2003-0224 at 1120 East Wayne
Street approve the reinstallation of an eight inch gutter which has the profile that closely
matches the original ---and in such a way so that it replicates the original. The
reapplication of the crown molding piece goes behind the gutter.
JOHN OXIAN: Is there anything else we need to include in this motion?
KAREN HAMMOND-NASH: That the gutter screens and covers be done at the owner's
discretion.
LYNN PATRICK: Seconds the motion and the motion passes unanimously.
B. LOCAL LANDMARKS, STAFF PROGRESS REPORT
1. Christmas -in -April Restored Craftsman Bungalow, 401
East Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Ind.
JOHN OXIAN: Mr. Clark is here tonight and we are going to declare this a landmark by
resolution instead of by ordinance. If the Commission approves it, then I will take it
before the Common Council.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Why are we doing it that way? Why can't we just do it the way
we always do?
JOHN OXIAN: The staff is recommending resolution; I, myself, would rather go the
same old way I have always done it.
