2. The two original windows should not be replaced with a pair of awning
windows that do not match the rest of the house, which is done in the Arts and
Crafts style. Awning windows were generally unknown in that style locally.
3. 2003 - 0808 -2: 1322 East Wayne Street North; replacement of six
windows.
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: (See attached Staff Report).
ROBERT WOLOSIN: (Was present with his contractor, Gary Derbin, of Riverside Construction
Company, to answer questions from commission members).
JOHN OXIAN: What is wrong with these current windows? Are they rotted?
ROBERT WOLOSIN: No they are not rotted. The current windows are very drafty and are very
outdated as far as being energy efficient. The storm windows were added to try and bring the
house up to a more livable standard, which did not work. What we are trying to do is find a way
to make the house more livable and still maintain the original look of the house as well.
JOHN OXIAN: Did these windows originally have wooden storm windows?
GARY DERBIN: Probably at some point they had a wooded storm window added because a
single pane of glass really doesn't insulate a house enough to make it livable. They would have
been removed by whoever put the other storm windows on.
MARY JANE CHASE: I will make a motion that on application 2003 - 0808 -2 that we accept the
staff's recommendation and approve the replacement windows similar to what was originally on
the house.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Seconds the motion and the motion passes unanimously.
JOHN OXIAN: I would like to make a motion that number four be tabled until the September
meeting. I would also like to have number five taken off of the agenda. I would like to have
letters sent, as mentioned earlier, regarding what tree was removed, if in fact it was removed, and
whether or not a branch was removed from another tree.
LYNN PATRICK: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
B. HEARING OF VISITORS
DON SPORLEDER: Would like the commission to include in its letter to the Indiana
Department of Transportation its interest in the outcome of the underpass for the south end of the
Leeper Park Bridge.
C. LOCAL LANDMARK, FIRST READING
1. Woolman House, 409 Lincoln Way West, South Bend
4
