If The Junior League House is made into a landmark, then as far as I know this does not
have an impact on what the city can or cannot do with Bartlett Street. I am told it would have
drawings for access to and from the site. My understanding is that the Bartlett Street proposal
number three does not impact Leeper Park. If it does not impact Leeper Park it may not
necessarily come before us.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I move that we proceed with the landmark status of the Junior League
House located at 130 Park Lane with the most appropriate expedition as possible.
RICHARD MORRISON: Seconds the motion and the motion carries unanimously.
III. REGULAR BUSINESS
A. Approval of Minutes
B. Treasurer's Report
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: Wayne received information, I believe, Friday to the effect that
if we were to seek funding from the city to pay for part or all of Wayne's salary and if we were
to get our justification for leave for that in by the last of March that there is a possibility that it
might be able to be considered favorable.
WAYNE DOOLITTLE: That information was from Kathy Cekanski - Ferran, who suggested that
if you are interested in proposing an increase to the budget that it needs to be done before the end
of March. The reason for this is the proposal can be put into the controller's office and can be
considered in the next budget year. You should go ahead and make a proposal because of the
amount of work the commission does inside the city of South Bend as opposed to what we do in
the county. The city is not pulling their fair share of what the commission does and because of
that we should ask for more funding. This will be for the budget year of 2003.
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: This matter came up on Friday and I wanted to get some kind of
direction from the commission as to whether or not this is an appropriate project for me to work
on. If the commission does wish me to work on and submit a proposal it would need to be
submitted prior to the next commission meeting.
C. STAFF REPORTS:
1. C. of A. Approvals
2. Leeper Park Beautification Committee
JOHN OXIAN: We should be having another committee meeting this coming month on Leeper
Park. What we did at the last meeting was that we discussed the following important points:
1. How we can spend some of the $50,000.00 and also get matching grants.
2. How the money could be spent on street lights, park benches,
paths and sidewalks, and fountains.
3. The rebuilding of the Powell house and how Memorial Hospital thought that
it was a very good idea because we were not going to be using any of the
q
