406 JOHN OXIAN: I would like to turn the floor over to the property owners to
407 elaborate on the application and situation.
408
409
410
411
412
413
414
415
416
417
418
419
420
421
422
423
424
425
426
427
428
429
430
431
432
433
434
435
436
437
438
439
440
441
442
443
444
445
446
447
448
449
450
451
NANCY ICKLER: We have a problem in that we were too attached to our slate roof
and nursed it along for a few months too long and it is now leaking into several rooms.
We have looked around at several materials for replacement and came to the conclusion
that slate would be too expensive. We looked at the alternatives and did not like most of
them, the best that we were able to come up with is Grand Manor, which has a shadow
line and a variegated look. Oliver Inn used the same stuff when it replaced its roof. It
also has a lifetime warranty and will be installed be a professional who has installed the
same material on another home in the East Wayne District.
JOHN OXIAN: How much would it cost to repair the slate roof?
NANCY ICKLER: We did not get a bid on repairing it this time because those who
looked at our roof said we should not be doing that anymore. The slate actually protects
a layer of material under it and once the slate starts to deteriorated from the edges it
doesn't do any good to replace the slate anymore.
MR. ICKLER: The contractor told us that this type of slate has a life span of fifty
to seventy years. The house was built in 1929, making the slate seventy-one years old.
NANCY ICKLER: We also want to put new rubber roofing on the flat portions of the
roof.
RICHARD HELMUS: I would like to make a motion to approve Certificate of
Appropriateness 2001-0313, with the installation of the Certainteed, Grand Manor
shingles with similar color of the slate and installation of new rubber roofing over flat
portions of the roof.
MARTHA CHOITZ: I second the motion.
After due consideration, the following action was taken:
Upon a motion by Richard Helmus, being seconded by Martha Choitz and carried
unanimously, application 2001-0313 the replacement of slate roofing with Certainteed
Grand Manor shingles in similar color as the slate and installation of rubber roofing over
flat roofs.
D. Personnel
JOHN OXIAN: The Executive Committee has recommended that Rhonda
Saunders be hired as Interim Director, the reason I say Interim is according to our
requirements for a director you have to have a masters degree. In an agreement with Mrs.
Saunders we have decided to give her four years to obtain a masters in a history related
field and in the mean time promote her to Interim Director. After she obtains her
10
