Upon a motion by Richard Helmus, being seconded by Mary Jane Chase,
- 369 -- application 2001-0102 was approved unanimously as presented by the staff.

B. Local Landmarks 2nd Reading
1. Norfolk Southern R.R. Bridge

RHONDA SAUNDERS: The railroad bridge owned by Norfolk Southern has been
before the Commission previously and as such the staff will waive the reading of the staff
report.

JOHN OXIAN: I have already talked with councilmen on this proposal all of which
do not have a problem with the designation of the railroad bridge in question. One of the
councilmen asked if the bridge becomes a landmark can the top of the bridge be
converted for a trail system later, I said yes. I would like to take this before the Council
as it is the only bridge of its type in St. Joseph County.

CATHERINE HOSTETLER; I would like a motion to send this nomination to the
Common Council with a favorable recommendation.

MARTHA CHOITZ: I move to send the proposed local landmark known as the
Norfolk Southern Railway Bridge over the St. Joseph River running adjacent to the
Angela Street Bridge, to the Common Council with a favorable recommendation.

RICHARD MORRISON: I second the motion.

After due consideration, the following action was taken:

Upon a motion by Martha Choitz, being seconded by Richard Morrison and
carried unanimously, the proposed landmarking of the Norfolk Southern R.R. Bridge was
recommended favorably to the Common Council.

2. 1304 Kessler Place — Jackson House

JOHN OXIAN: This is the only house of its type in the city survey and is rated. an
S/12. The only known alterations to the structure is that the original outdoor light fixture
was removed and sold at auction. We have tried several times to contact the owner
including sending a certified letter.

JOANN SPORLEDER: Do we know who the architect is or the construction date of
the house?

RHONDA SAUNDERS: We do not have any listing for an architect but the house
was built in 1920.

E
