Mr. Rubin noted that both of his neighbors have large concrete pads in their backyards without
any camouflage. Mr. Talley stated that Area Plan and the Building Department may require
buffering between office settings and residential settings. Mr. Oxian asked if Mr. Rubin has
looked into getting a permit for the new parking area. Mr. Rubin stated that he has not yet
turned the issue over to a contractor, nor researched the requirements for a permit. Mr. Oxian
stated that the Committee should not vote on the parking lot issue until more information is
available. Mr. Rubin asked if the application could be broken up so that the driveway and
walks could be approved now. Mr. Oxian noted that splitting the application would be fine.
Mrs. Choitz amended her motion to recommend approval of the replacement of existing
driveway, walks, stairs and curbs and the installation of a new service walk. Mr. Weiner
seconded the motion as amended. The motion passed unanimously. A phone vote was taken
regarding this motion on November 16, 1999, as follows: John Oxian-yes, Jerry Weiner -yes,
Martha Choitz-yes, Gerald Ujdak-yes, Catherine Hostetler -yes and Richard Helmus-yes. He noted that the owners,
Monica and Greg Anderson, were present. Mr. Talley further noted that the driveway may not
survive the contractors heavy trucks. Mr. Anderson stated that the contractor has promised to
pump back the concrete. Mr. Oxian asked what the addition currently sits on. Mr. Anderson
stated that the addition sits on a crawl space. Mrs. Choitz moved to recommend approval of the
application as submitted. Mr. Weiner seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
A phone vote was taken concerning this motion on November 16, 1999, as follows: John
Oxian-yes, Martha Choitz-yes, Jerry Weiner -yes, Gerald Ujdak-yes, Catherine Hostetler -yes
and Richard Helmus-yes. He further noted that the
owner, Julia DesLauriers and her contractor, John Troyer, were present. Mr. Talley also stated
that he had met with the owner and contractor to inspect the existing garage and discuss the
style and size of the new garage. Ms. DesLauriers submitted documentation and samples of the
siding, service door and garage door. Mr. Oxian stated that the proposed service door does not
match the existing service door. Ms. DesLauriers stated that she would use any style door the
Commission would approve. Mr. Oxian suggested that the owner use a door with two lower
panels and one large top panel, one similar to the "Challenge" door, design WS801. Mr. Ujdak
asked what type of garage doors would be used. Mr. Oxian stated that the existing garage has
sliding garage doors. Ms. DesLauriers noted that the existing doors are sliders, however, the
new garage would have overhead metal doors. Mr. Ujdak asked if the new garage would have
gutters and downspouts. John Troyer stated that the garage would have 5", "K" style gutters
and downspouts to match those found on the house. Mr. Oxian noted that the existing garage
doors only have two panels and thus the new garage door should be flush to better replicate the
existing wood doors.
