CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS STAFF REPORT STANDARDS II. Existing Structures II.C.1. Required Original windows and doors, including sash, lintels, sills„ shutters, decorative glass, pediments, hoods and hardware shall be retained or when deteriorated beyond repair, replaced with units and trim resembling the original. II.C.2. Recommended If steel casement windows have to be replaced or removed, windows of similar size and style should be used. II.C.3. Prohibited Original windows, doors, and hardware shall not be discarded when they can be restored and reused in place. New windows and door openings that would alter the scale and proportion of the building shall not be introduced. Inappropriate new window or door features such as metal' insulating glass combinations that require the removal of original windows and doors shall not be installed. II.D. L Required Existing or original porches, stoops, patios and steps including handrails, balusters, columns, brackets, tiles and roof decorations shall be retained or replaced by replicas of the same design and materials when deteriorated beyond repair. III.A.1. Required Additions to existing buildings shall be related in height and proportion to the existing structure. III.A.2. Recommended Contemporary designs should be compatible in character and mood to the building or neighborhood. III.A.3. Prohibited Additions that would add new height or change the existing facade of a building and change its scale and architectural character shall not be constructed. III.A.4. Not Recommended Any style or period of architecture that is incompatible with the existing should not be permitted in new additions. III.B 1. Required Material used on an addition to an existing structure shall relate to the existing or original materials of the structure. Also, as much of the original structure as possible shall be retained so that the addition could be removed without damage to the basic structure and appearance of the building.
