Mr. Eide stated that the reasons behind the improvements were to solve the drainage problem <br />and to add a little more character to the an otherwise plain patio. There was some discussion <br />over the quality of slate as a paving stone. Mrs. Hostetler moved to approve the application as <br />recommended by staff. Mrs. Choitz seconded the motion. Mr. Fine asked if the raised window <br />wells would be made of concrete. Mr. Eide stated that it would still be made of concrete only <br />taller. The motion passed unanimously. <br />2. 1998-0904 - 1121 E. Wayne - construct small addition on west side of house and reconstruct <br />and move a rear porch. <br />Mr. Talley presented the staff report and circulated photographs. Mr. Eide stated that the actual <br />openings on the rear wall would be the same. He further noted that he has severe doubts about <br />the possibility of being able to remove the window, located next to the back door, and <br />successfully reuse it in the new location. Mr. Eide also stated that in the next two to three years <br />he would like to replace all of the steel casement windows in the house. Mr. Oxian stated that <br />Mr. Duvall was working with a company out of Chicago which makes a window that more <br />closely resembles steel casement windows. Mr. Fine asked what the reason behind the move of <br />the door was. Mr. Eide stated that it was part of an overall kitchen renovation to allow the <br />whole family to be comfortable seated at the kitchen table. Mrs. Choitz moved to approve the <br />application as submitted including the rear porch construction and move. Mrs. Hostetler <br />seconded the motion. Mr. Fine asked if Mr. Eide would submit specifics for the type of <br />window to be used in the rear wall. Mr. Oxian stated that the new window would have 8 <br />muntin divisions. Mr. Eide noted that when he receives more information on the window he <br />will submit it to the Commission. Mr. Fine asked Mr. Eide if the muntins would be inside the <br />glass or outside. Mr. Eide stated that he would most likely use the divisions on the interior of <br />the house and the exterior for true/false divided light. Mr. Eide further stated that when he <br />decided on a window then he would give the information to Mr. Talley. The motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />3. 1998-0819 - 810 Arch - rear door porch. <br />Mr. Talley presented the staff report and circulated photographs. He also noted that the owner, <br />Ann McFadden, was present. Mrs. Hostetler moved to approve the application as <br />recommended by staff, including rear. porch new roof and lattice work. Mrs. Petrass seconded <br />the motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />4. 1998-00904-2 - 202 S. Jacob - new hip roof, two awnings, and new landscaping. <br />Mr. Talley presented the staff report and circulated photographs. He also noted that the owner, <br />Bill Lamie, was present. Mr. Lamie stated that the improvement requested in this application <br />are a part of a master plan for rehabilitating the house. He further noted that he has submitted, to <br />the Commission, front and rear elevations of the house that display his future goals. Mrs. <br />Hostetler moved to approve the application as recommended by staff. Mr. Fine seconded the <br />motion. Mrs. Sporleder asked if the application was requesting the hip roof over the garage. <br />Mr. Lamie stated that he was not asking for the change over the garage. Mr. Oxian placed Mr. <br />Laurie's futuristic plans into the Standards & Maintenance Committee to allow the Commission <br />and the owner, to work together in expediting approval of any future plans.
