KERNAN DATE = AUGUST ,1990 <br />FROM = MAYOR'S HISTORIC STREETLIGHT COMMITTEE <br />TOM BRUNNER, CHAIRMAN <br />RE : RECOMMENDATION ON THE REPAIR AND /OR REPLACEMENT <br />OF "HISTORIC" STREETLIGHTS THROUGHOUT THE CITY <br />In response to the concern raised by residents of certain <br />City neighborhoods in which historic streetlights are located, that <br />damaged or otherwise non - functional streetlights were being replaced <br />by the Indiana & Michigan Power Company with a less attractive, <br />utilitarian model, composed of a "toothpick" pole of either <br />fiberglass or concrete, and a known to I &M as the "Town and <br />Country" model, the Mayor created informal committee - "The Mayor's <br />Historic Streetlight Committee" - and charged this group with the <br />responsibility of making recommendations about future repair and /or <br />replacement of such historic streetlights. Appointed to the <br />Streetlight Committee were the following individuals: <br />Member <br />Mr. Thomas Brunner, Chairman <br />Mr. Brian Crumlish <br />Ms. Jean Dennen <br />Ms. Maureen Marnocha <br />Mr. John Oxian <br />Ms. Pam Chipman <br />Ms. Jenny Manier <br />Mr. Jim Caldwell <br />Mr. John Leszczynski <br />Mr. Jim Cartwright <br />Mr. Steve Luecke <br />Mr. Larry DeLaruelle <br />Representinq <br />Riverside Drive <br />East Wayne Street <br />Bronson Street <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />Harter Heights <br />City Attorney's Office <br />Mayor's Office <br />Public Works <br />Indiana & Michigan Power Co. <br />City Council <br />Edgewater <br />Mr. Michael Meeks, P.E., of the City's engineering <br />department also provided technical and other assistance to the <br />Committee. <br />The Committee first met on March 15, 1990 and then again on <br />April 18th, June 12th, June 28th, and August 8th. <br />As an overview, the neighborhoods within which historic <br />streetlights are located include, the Riverside Drive Historic <br />District, Park Avenue, Harter Heights, Northshore Boulevard Historic <br />District, the Edgewater Historic District, the East Wayne Street <br />Historic District, and the Sunnymede area of the City, including <br />streets such as Sunnymede Avenue and Bronson Street. It is estimated <br />that approximately 350 historic streetlights are located throughout <br />these neighborhoods. The Committee's initial discussions soon made <br />clear that throughout and even within these various neighborhoods <br />
