First Reading
Mr. Oxian reported that all necessary
materials had been submitted pertinent to
the creation of what was to be called the
"River Bend Historic District." He and
Mr. Holycross had agreed that the area
fulfilled the requirements to become a
historic district. Before the June
meeting, he hoped the district committee
would meet and review what had been
presented so the district could be
formally adopted.
Mr. Holycross said he would prepare a
detailed report before the June meeting.
Mr. Oxian said the sooner this district
was adopted, the better.
5. Historic Landmarks
a. Riley High School --First Reading
Mr. Oxian reported receiving a letter
requesting the landmarking of Riley High
School. He announced a second reading in
June, and asked the petitioners present
•if they had any questions.
b. Ullery Cemetery --First Reading
C. Tutt -Stuckey Cemetery --First Reading
Mr. Oxian reported that these two
cemeteries, both in Clay Township, would
get a public hearing at the June meeting.
Mr. Holycross said he'd received a letter
of approval from Mr. Romine, Clay
Township Trustee, and said he'd submit a
copy of this letter along with his June
report.
Mrs. Pat Schafer (Riley -at -Ewing) asked
Mr. Oxian what materials to prepare for
the Riley High School landmark hearing.
He told her to bring a petition
requesting the preservation of the high
school building; such a petition would
prove neighborhood support.
Mrs. Schafer said a petition asking
that Riley remain at its current Ewing
Street location, and bearing 1500
signatures, already existed. She
submitted this petition for the
Commission's inspection.
Mr. Herendeen said the HPC could not
fully support the existing petition, as
written. He pointed out provisions
advocating the relocation of Studebaker
Golf Course and the renovation of the
high school building. The HPC could only
support the architectural preservation of
the building.
Mr. Oakley, also of Riley -at -Ewing,
said one option was to preserve the
original building but to extend it across
the golf course.
0
