Commissioner. he and Lillie had a daughter, Mrs. Edna Westwood, <br />and two sons, Vernon C. and Fred E. Cripe. He lived long enough <br />to be a member of the Octogenarian Club.[291 <br />Mrs. Lillie (Jacob) F. Abele Cripe was born in Berrien Springs on <br />August 27, 1875 and resided in Roseland most of her lifetime. She <br />was a member of the Community Congregational Church and upon <br />passing away was buried in Ullery cemetery.[301 <br />Edward Paul Cripe was born on Jan. 27, 1903 in South Bend and <br />lived here all his life. He was at one time owner and operator of <br />"Tip Top Cleaners" in Roseland. He was a member of the A.A.R.P. <br />When he died he was buried in Ullery cemetery.[31] <br />Mrs. Edward Paul Cripe was born on Nov. 25, 1909 in West <br />Virginia. She lived here after 1943, coming from Richmond, <br />Virginia. In 1952 in South Bend she married E. Paul Cripe. She <br />was a salesperson for several downtown retail stores. When she <br />died she was interred in Ullery cemetery.[32] <br />THE McCOMBS FAMILY <br />William McCombs was born near Worcester, Ohio on Jan. 31, 1818. <br />He was the son of Lambert and Hannah (Hague) McCombs, natives of <br />Pennsylvania, who were among the early settlers of St. Joseph <br />County, coming here in July, 1829. At that time William was a lad <br />of about 11 years. Here he was raised to be an independent <br />farmer. On September 12, 1839 he married Miss Eva Cripe, who was <br />born in Montgomery County, Ohio March 2, 1816 and was the <br />daughter of John and Eva (Roof) Cripe. After their marriage they <br />settled in Clay Township and raised a family of nine children: <br />Elizabeth, John, Lambert, Maria, Samuel G., Eva E., Hannah L., <br />Sarah A. and William F. <br />William McCombs passed away in December 1885 and was buried in <br />Ullery cemetery. At the time he was a member of the German <br />Baptist church. He left his widow the owner of 247 acres of <br />valuable land and a comfortable residence. Mrs. Eva McCombs <br />rented her farm and in 1893 was one of the oldest living settlers <br />of St. Joseph County coming here with her parents in 1830.[331 <br />Mrs. Eve McCombs died on April 7, 1897 and was also interred in <br />Ullery cemetery. <br />William L. McCombs (1894-1955) was buried in Ullery cemetery. Mr. <br />McCombs was born on August 9, 1894 and was married to Thelma Dean <br />Rock in South Bend on July 31, 1915. They had nine children.[34] <br />Robert McCombs was born on November 26, 1938 in South Bend and <br />lived in Port Huron after 1939. He died on March 18, 1961 and was <br />interred here.[35] <br />F'' <br />
