THE PIERCE FAMILY <br />John P. Pierce was born in 1846 and died on September 27, 1900. <br />He was survived by his wife, Margaret Pierce, and two daughters, <br />Mrs. Grace Chirhart and Mrs. Pearle Cowles, and a son, James <br />Pierce. Upon his demise he was interred in Ullery.[36] Mrs. <br />Margaret 1. Pierce was born in German Township, on May 23, 1852 <br />and lived here all her life. In 1870 she married John Pierce in <br />German Township. On passing away her last remains were buried in <br />Ullery cemetery.[37] <br />Also buried in Ullery from the Pierce family is John M., son of <br />John P. and Margaret Pierce. He died Jan. 16, 1885, at the age of <br />4 months. 12 days. In addition, Ernest E. Chirhart, infant of <br />Mrs. Grace Chirhart, and also the infant daughter of Mrs. Pearle <br />Cowles are buried in Ullery. There is a Pierce family monument as <br />a memorial to the members of the Pierce family interred in Ullery <br />cemetery. <br />VETERANS BURIED IN ULLERY <br />A number of graves here contain the last remains of veterans of <br />American wars. One veteran, Nathaniel Bratt, was born in St. <br />Joseph County, on December 25, 1839 and lived in this vicinity <br />all his life. He had two children, Mrs. Leona Schuchert and Mrs. <br />Edith Lawrence of Dowagiac, Michigan.[38] According to the Graves <br />Registration Project he served in the army as a private in the <br />Civil War. <br />According to the Graves Registration Project, Henry Wagner of <br />Clay Township, also a Civil War veteran, was buried in Ullery <br />cemetery. Little else is known about him. <br />Also according to the Graves Registration project, Asa Jones of <br />Clay Township, a Army corporal in the Civil war, was buried in <br />Ullery. He was born on March 13, 1835 and died on October 10, <br />1890. He served Company H of the 29th. Regiment of the Indiana <br />Volunteers.[39] <br />Albert Stinebeck, also of Clay Township, was <br />wars. His record was as follows: he served in <br />4th Indiana Volunteers and later Company E of <br />Volunteers.
