Karen Kiemnec of H.L.F.I. informed <br />Mr. Pastor of a committee being <br />formed as the St. Joseph County <br />Courthouse Restoration/Preservation <br />Society. This committee will be <br />doing feasibility studies for <br />restoration. Ms. Kiemnec offered a <br />presentation to the Commission if <br />desired. <br />3. Legal <br />No Report <br />4. Historical District <br />a. St. Joseph St - Potential Historical District <br />Mrs. Dixon and Mr. Oxian, along with <br />Mr. Zeiger have been working on setting <br />up a Historic District in this area with <br />preliminary boundaries included. This <br />proposal has been discussed with John Hunt of <br />Redevelopement and Carter Wolfe of Center <br />City Associates and both persons are in <br />full support. An update will be forth- <br />coming. <br />5. Historic Landmarks <br />a. 609 Portage - Second Reading <br />Owners were present to elaborate. The <br />property is ranked a "12" and is <br />architecturally significant. It was <br />built and originally owned by Keller of <br />the "Whitcomb and Keller" fame. In 1972 <br />was known as the South Bend Conservatory <br />of Music. Mr. Oxian requested more <br />in-depth histories of houses being <br />presented for possible landmarks. <br />The property was presented to the City <br />Council for approval. Mr. Newburn <br />motioned for approval, Mr. Welsheimer <br />seconded; motion approved. <br />b. Witter Cemetery <br />This cemetery is maintained by the <br />German Township Trustee. Mr. Oxian <br />spoke with the township trustee and <br />read correspondence in support of <br />preserving the cemetery. Toni Cook <br />of the South Bend Area Geneological <br />Society was present to elaborate. <br />Mrs. Choitz motioned for approval, <br />Mr. Welsheimer seconded; motion <br />approved. <br />
