reroofing; Mr. Herendeen seconded. Mr. Eide asked
if the owners had picked a roofing material. Mrs.
Bauer stated that they had not.
Motion approved.
Part IA: Addition of ridge vents, as per the
submitted specifications (shingle covered ridge
vent - see specs). Mr. Herendeen moved to approve
the ridge vents. Mrs. Dennen seconded. Motion
approved.
Part IB: Chimney repair and repointing. Where
bricks are missing, replace with appropriate
style/color of brick, and when tuckpointing, use
mortar compatible with original. Mrs. Sporleder
further suggested that the owners have the chimney
inspected and, if it needs to be rebuilt for safety
reasons, that the owners undertake that project.
Mr. Herendeen moved to approve as stated. Mr.
Newburn seconded. Motion approved.
Part II: Dormers. Mrs. Dennen moved to install two
dormers with windows matching other windows in
house (double hung or casement with muntins). Mrs.
Petrass seconded. Motion approved.
Part III: Replacement of attic vent with
window(s). The Commission members discussed
approving or not approving the replacement on the
basis of the fact that it is located in the back of
the house (not visible from the street). Mr. Oxian
pointed out that approving a plan on the rear
elevation of a property which would not be approved
if it were on the main facade is a dangerous
precedent due to the fact that the rear facade is
often visible from an alley or another property.
Mr. Herendeen stated that these decisions would be
based on the merits of the project (the window in
this case).
Mr. Eide offered alternative suggestions to, the
owners regarding the type/style of window which
might be placed in the space. Mr. Herendeen
suggested that, if the Commission wished to have a
more concrete proposal, that they ask the owners to
present something more detailed in the way of a
proposal.
Mrs. Sporleder moved that the placement of a window
in the aable of the south elevation be approved,
and that it be desianed to fit the space
appropriately with appropriate muntins and
mullions. Mr. Newburn seconded. Final approval
pending staff review of window style. Motion
