APPENDIX %" 4/36 <br />historic preservation commission <br />of south bend and st. joseph county <br />is ROOM 1123 COUNTY CITY BUILDING <br />south bend, indiana 46601 (219) 284-9798 <br />Apr i 1 21 , 1986 <br />STAFF REPORT <br />RE: 1216 Lincolnway East <br />The front sidewalk to be changed to go from the porch to the driveway instead of <br />the porch to the sidewalk along LWE. Items addressing that issue in the <br />Lincolnway East standards are: <br />1. Building Site and Landscaping - Required <br />Existing plants, trees, fencing, walkways, streetlights, signs and <br />benches which reflect the property's history and development shall be <br />retained. <br />2. Building Site and Landscaping - Prohibited <br />No changes may be made to the appearance of the site by removing old plants, <br />trees, fencing, walkways, outbuildings, and other elements before evaluating <br />their importance to the property's history and development. <br />Recommendation: <br />0 the thirty-five structures facing Lincolnway East in the district, all <br />thirty-five have sidewalks which run from the front porch to the sidewalk <br />parallel to LWE (see drawing A). Three of those thirty-five also have a walk <br />connecting to a driveway (see drawing B). The staff recommends that to be <br />consistant with the character of the neighborhood, either the front sidewalk <br />should be retained as is (drawing A) or in conjunction with a walk connecting to <br />the driveway as in drawing B. <br />• <br />
