Cap front chimney. Change <br />garage hip roof to a gable roof with end of gable facing the street; add a <br />window -t -o match the existing one on the south facade for symmetry. <br />I Roofs - Prohibited <br />Do not add, remove, or alter --features which wi 4.1 change. its character or the <br />architectural character of the house. <br />2. Roofs - Preferred <br />Preserve or replace all architectural features which give the roof its <br />character, such as dormer windows, cupolas, cornices, brackets, chimneys, <br />cre,s-Ung, weather -vane -s,- and spec.i al eaves. - ------- <br />3. New Construction or Additions to Existing Structures - Preferred <br />Consider the size, scale, roof lines, etc. in the design of a new structure, <br />so, that --it will be,compa.t--ible with---i.ts adjacent -buildings in particular and <br />will blend with the neighborhood in general. New additions to existing <br />structures must be compatible in scale, building materials and texture to <br />the --bu-i-l-di-n.g to whi.ch_ the-- addi-t-ion-4s.-made. Retain -as much of the or-iginal <br />structure as possible, so that the addition could be removed without damage <br />to the basic structure and appearance to the building. <br />Recommendation: <br />Allow the rear chimney to be removed and capped over because it is deteriorated <br />and is causing leakage through the roof. <br />Allow the front chimney to be capped over. This solution will prevent further <br />leakage and is reversible. The chimney can be re -opened and re -used at a later <br />date . <br />Allow the garage to be remodeled. The gar -age is a non-contributing structure to <br />the district. Its remodeling will give the owner additional space and make the <br />garage a more compatible structure to the district. <br />
