Mr. Hayes <br />made a motion that the Commission give Mr. Smith a letter saying it does <br />not object to the aesthetics of his proposal and it feels that fieldstone <br />is an appropriate material to be used along the riverbank in the Edgewater <br />Place Historic District (see Appendix C). Mrs. Sporleder seconded, motion <br />carried. Mr. Oxian and Mrs. DeLaruelle abstained; Mrs. Sherk voted nay. <br />2) Certificate of Appropriateness for 557'River Avenue <br />Ms. Kiemnec regorted that Mr. Williams plans to re -roof his house and put <br />braces at a 90 angle to each other and diagonally under the eaves on the <br />gable side of the house where the rafters project. Mrs. Sporleder made a <br />motion to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness for the brackets and <br />reroofing; Mr. Hayes seconded; motion passed. <br />3) Certificate of Appropriateness for.620 W. Washington —Tippecanoe Place <br />Ms. Kiemnec reported that owners want to reroof the north and east sides <br />of the structure and replace flashing, eaves, and gutters. Where possible, <br />materials will be restored and reused or exact reproductions will be used. <br />She further reported that lightning rods would be removed. Mr. Hayes made <br />a motion to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness for the work as out- <br />lined; Mr. Nimtz seconded. Mr. Oxian moved to amend the motion to require <br />the owners to replace the lightning rods; Mrs. DeLaruelle seconded. Both <br />the motion and the amendment carried. <br />g. Staff Report <br />1) Report on Summary Report <br />Ms. Kiemnec reported that 100 copies of the Summary Report were sold and <br />approximately 30 were left. She further indicated that she had taken'the <br />book to the printer for a second printing and the projected completion date <br />is some time in June. The Commission agreed to keep the same price. Mr. <br />Hayes asked if it would be possible to advertise the Summary Report in the <br />Southhold Newsletter. Mr. Oxian made a motion to the effect; Mr. Hayes <br />seconded; motion carried. <br />2) Report on -Progress of Small Town Survey <br />Ms. Kiemnec told the Commission that about half of the fieldwork for St. <br />Mary's Campus is completed and her intern has done all the historical <br />research for the college. She reported that due to .lack of adequate help, <br />the expected completion date of August 1, 1982 cannot be met. She has <br />written to the DNR requesting an additional six months for the project <br />and was assured by Nancy Long of the Division of Historic Preservation in <br />Indianapolis that -this would not be a problem. <br />3) Report on Preservation Tax Incentive Conference <br />Mr.,Oxian requested that Ms. Kiemnec type up the report and distribute it <br />at the next meeting. <br />4) Additional Staff <br />Ms. Kiemnec asked the Commission's approval to ask Sylvia Gillis if she <br />would be willing to work for the Commission on office work and research as <br />she has.done in the past for a maximum of 10 hours per week at $3.50 per <br />hour.. Mr. Oxian made a motion to that effect; Mr. Nimtz seconded; motion <br />carried. Mrs. Sporleder suggested that -all local colleges, be -cal_] ed to: <br />see if they have any students interested in working as interns. <br />
