March 16, 1981
Page 3
Committee Reports (cont.)
Historic Landmarks
A. A motion was made by Mr. Oxian to declare 66401 Walnut Road
a Historic Landmark. The owner has signed the consent form.
V The motion was seconded by Mr. Nimtz and was approved depending
on the approval of absent members.
B. Mr. Oxian suggested that a policy be made for abandoned houses
in the County which"are'Iisted in the survey and which may be
in a deteriorated condition. He agreed to have the Landmarks
Committee draft a proposal and will submit it to the Commission.
C. Mrs. Price suggested that a letter should be written to Jim
Markle in the City Building Department requesting that he
notify the Commission of demolition permit application for
any structures rated 10 or above in the City Survey.
Environmental Impact Statements
A. Mr. Richardson, the County Engineer spoke of their proposed
reconstruction plans for the Twyckenham Bridge. He stated
that the first bids were $.5 million over the estimate and
therefore the plans had to be redrawn. He stated there is
an approximate $36,000 to $40,000 cost difference between
the open and enclosed balastrades and the arched and straight
piers. He stated further that it is imperative that the new
bids come in under the estimate, otherwise, the federal money
will not again be available.
Mr. Oxian moved that a letter be sent to the County Commissioners
and the County Council to encourage them to spend additional
money if necessary to reconstruct the bridge with the open
balastrade and the pier arches. This is important specifically
for this bridge because of its historical significance. Mr.
Richardson had no objection to such a letter. The motion
was seconded by Mr. Wasielewski and was approved pending vote
of absent members.
B. Mr. Stamper read a letter from Mr. Henry Ferretie, County
Commissioner, regarding the Darden Road Bridge. He asked
if it was possible through our Commission to preserve and
develop the bridge into a pedestrian bridge. Mr. Nimtz
suggested contacting Billy Hankins of the Park Board and
Dick Gantz at the State Historic Preservation Office about
fundinq for such a project and then writing to Mr. Ferretie
stating that such a project could be done depending on
available funds.
0
