June 19, 1978
Page 3
Historic Landmarks and. Standards
Mr. Oxian made a motion to declare the house at 53190 Juniper Road,,
the home of Mr. and. Mrs. Robert W. O'Connor, a landmark. Mr. Kline
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Mr. Oxian read a letter from the Division of Continuing Education
at IUSB requesting our endorsement of --a grant they are applying for
for their project "Science for Energy vise Citizens." Mr. Wasiel-
ewski recommended that Ms. Peck write a favorable recommendation.
Mrs. Price so moved, Mr. Eckerle seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Eckerle volunteered to check with Substandard Housing on the state
of the house at 701 East Pennsylvania.
Mr. Oxian stated that after hearing from Mr. Eckerle, he would write
to the owner, Mr. Thomas F. Wigfe-U, and notify him of the landmark
designation process, Resolution #3, so Mr. Wigfall would be aware of
how to take any action either for or against the designation if he
cared to. Mr. Oxian was also going to contact Conrad Damien, Presi-
dent of the Southeast PAC, for his suggestions and help.
Mr. Oxian asked the Commission how they felt about him asking the
County Council to identify by resolution the schoolhouses in the
County that have been rehabbed and adapted.for modern uses, and. to
send each owner a certificate giving there recognition for their
conservation efforts. Each schoolhouse would be brought up indi-
vidually again before the Commission for a final vote of approval,
and Mr. Oxian would handle all the correspondence and petitioning.
There was a favorable response - a second - and.everyone voted to
accept the proposal.
Mr. Eckerle recommended that the Commission hold off on any actions
dealing with landmark status for the Morris Civic Auditorium until
after C.D. had received, the final UDAG award.
Ms. Peck requested that the Landmarks and Personnel Committee begin
work to seek a replacement for John Stamper.
Legal
No report.
Public Relations and Community Education
No report.
Historic Preservation Plan
No report.
9
